Fremont
Moving to Seattle? What is Fremont like?
Discover Fremont, Seattle, where nature’s elegance meets urban sophistication and a dash of the delightfully quirky. Proudly perched along the Lake Washington Ship Canal and just north of Lake Union, this “urban village” offers verdant waterfront parks like Gas Works Park and the scenic Burke‑Gilman Trail for sunlit strolls and dramatic skyline views.
Public spaces sparkle with iconic, eccentric art installations such as the Fremont Troll, the Fremont Rocket, Lenin statue, and “Waiting for the Interurban” sculpture, each piece adding layers of creativity to this vibrant neighborhood. Parks like Fremont Peak Park, A.B. Ernst Park, Ross Park, and the longtime Fremont branch of the Seattle Public Library offer both charm and community utility.
Private amenities are equally compelling. A lively roster of independent boutiques, cafes, and artisanal purveyors lines Fremont Avenue and the 35th–36th corridors, boutiques like the Fremont Vintage Mall, local gourmet markets such as PCC and Marketime, the socially conscious Theo Chocolate flagship, and beloved restaurants including Le Coin, Paseo, Revel, and RockCreek.

Fremont Troll Origins & Details
Built in 1990 after an art competition organized by the Fremont Arts Council to beautify / reclaim the space under the Aurora Bridge, which had become a dumping ground.
The Troll is about 18 feet tall, made of steel rebar, wire, then ferroconcrete. It originally held a real Volkswagen Beetle (with some time capsule bits like an Elvis bust, license plates) until parts were vandalized.
The street segment above (Aurora between 34th‑36th) was renamed “Troll Avenue” in 2005 to help people find the Troll.
Annual Solstice Parade & Fair
Fremont hosts the Fremont Solstice Parade, a big summer celebration, organized by the Fremont Arts Council. It's famous for artistic floats, giant puppets, stilt walkers, dancers, musicians, and the streaking “Solstice Cyclists” (some painted, etc.).
